TITLE:Harana Ng Puso (4851)
AUTHOR: Avi Cabrera
FROM: Precious Hearts Romances
PAGES: 128

Manang daw si Annie. Sa edad niyang dalawampu, hindi pa niya nararanasang magka-boyfriend, magkaroon ng first kiss, at magkaroon ng dates. Wala siyang inatupag kundi maging isang mabuting estudyante at mabuting anak. But fate intervened. Inilagak niyon sa pintuan ng bahay nila ang guwapo, sikat, at pilyong si Bane. He was a rocker and he rocked her world.

REVIEW

GENRE
Romance

PLOT
The plot was simple, yet the writing style pulled it off. It was easy to read and believable.

POINT OF VIEW
I like both the hero and heroine POVs here.

CHARACTERS

ANNIE
Her name fits her perfectly. It's just that I think she's not suited for the kolehiyala role. She's more mature and responsible, but I understand that it was necessary for the plot. I just thought that it will still work even if she was a fresh graduate acting as guardian to her sister and cousin.

I'm sure a lot of NBSB readers can relate with her. And to think her hero was a rockstar-type. Definitely the epitome of a NBSB fantasy.

BANE
Bane was perfect for the irresistable rockstar role. He showed the inner life of a musician well. I like him as a hero. He felt alive. Like he was out there somewhere, teasing Annie.

Their connection was established pretty well, despite the limited setting.

OTHER DETAILS
Bane had me on his first dialogue. It gave me that rush of excitement and anticipation on what's going to come next. In short, he got me hooked immediately.

Bane's life as a band member felt genuine. It showed in his (or should I say the writer's?) choice of words. As if his life was captured in everything he says and how he lived his everyday life.

I also liked how Annie reacted to him. A perfect NBSB heroine.

I'm not sure abut the conflict, though. It felt short. Though the protective-father-theme was understandable, but it gets old for me. It's as if Annie was rendered helpless because of her birthright. It felt cliched.

CONCLUSION
To quote Bane, "The artist in him was intrigued because of the simplicity she had". I felt the same for this book. Maybe because it was actually well-written? Simplicity was its appeal. I hesitate to give it 4 stars because I think it still lacked stimulants, but it made me go ga-ga over Bane, so, just 3. It's a light, but substantial novel. A good read. I recommend it.
